Review: Branded by Abi Ketner & Missy Kalicicki

Summary:

Fifty years ago the Commander came into power and murdered all who opposed him. In his warped mind, the seven deadly sins were the downfall of society. He created the Hole where sinners are branded according to their sins and might survive a few years. At best.
Now LUST wraps around my neck like blue fingers strangling me. I’ve been accused of a crime I didn’t commit and now the Hole is my new home.

Darkness. Death. Violence. Pain.

Now every day is a fight for survival. But I won’t die. I won’t let them win.

The Hole can’t keep me. The Hole can’t break me.
I am more than my brand. I’m a fighter.
My name is Lexi Hamilton, and this is my story.

My opinion:

First: wow! I got this book from the authors, because they asked me if I want to have a free copy to review it (for them) and I said yes do that. They said it was a dystopian like The Hunger Games & Divergent, but I still got my expectations low. But I was wrong! First it was a slow paced, but after a few chapters I read it só fast and finished it very quickly. I understood the comparison to The Hunger Games because of the sister and brother relationship and to Divergent because of falling in love with the guard/constructor and the fighting.

This story is so original because of dead, anger and lost and still fighting to get free. I never thought that the Commander would be that person: what a plot-twist!

I like the fact that this is a standalone and not a trilogy or a series so you can read it very fast.

Because I wasn't hooked at the beginning I gave it 4.5 stars.

Have you read Branded?
