Review: Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins

Rebel Belle - Rachel Hawkins

Harper Price, peerless Southern belle, was born ready for a Homecoming tiara. But after a strange run-in at the dance imbues her with incredible abilities, Harper's destiny takes a turn for the seriously weird. She becomes a Paladin, one of an ancient line of guardians with agility, super strength and lethal fighting instincts.

Just when life can't get any more disastrously crazy, Harper finds out who she's charged to protect: David Stark, school reporter, subject of a mysterious prophecy and possibly Harper's least favorite person. But things get complicated when Harper starts falling for him--and discovers that David's own fate could very well be to destroy Earth.

My opinion:

I really, really liked this book! It felt like a light contemporary, but that wasn't exactly the genre. There were some magic elements in it. I gave this book 4.5 stars because I enjoyed it, but it's not my all-time favorite book of all time. I already kinda figured out that that thing would happen between Harper and David, so it would've been more a plot twist if that wasn't going to happen.

I picked this book up because of the BOOKSPLOSION READ-ALONG of this month: and because of the fact that everyone in the booktube community is raving (is that the word? haha) about this book.

I've read other books by Rachel Hawkins before, but I didn't finish those series (Hex Hall). So I might pick up the last book in that series too.

Have you read Rebel Belle and what are your thoughts about it?
